I drive up the hill on idyllic mountain roads. If I look closely, I can already see it: my authentic holiday home, in the middle of greenery. The closer I get, the more excited I am. Having your own holiday home with a swimming pool is the ultimate holiday for me. And for me it might be the best way to spend my vacations! Far away from the crowd, completely at home in my own place. In complete silence, preferably with a panoramic view of the sea or rolling hills. And all this while the rental car is within reach to go out to even more beautiful things in the area…
Fortunately, there are plenty of places in Europe where you can spend a holiday in peace and space. And you don't have to do an extensive search, because I have already set out on a journey of discovery for you! I have found special holiday homes in Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Surrounded by nature, with a private pool or on the coast.
Imagine... A detached villa with its own private pool or a country house full of character, a four-post bed and wide-opening balcony doors. A beautiful view of, perhaps, the sea or mountains. In the lush garden, the orange trees beckon. You have nothing to worry about and nowhere to be Except perhaps the village square later to pick up some local wine and farmhouse cheese.
If that sounds a tad desirable, then I’ve put together a list of my favourite properties per destination. I especially recommend any of these choices for that special holiday with family or friends. Renting a holiday home together with the family provides the best holidays. While the children take a dip in the pool, you can already get started with the barbecue. After they go to bed, you talk for hours. In the meantime, night falls and the crickets chirp in the garden of the holiday home.
I have already discovered authentic holiday homes around the entire Mediterranean Sea. They are unique places, far away from the crowd. In Spain, along the beautiful costa's I like to walk along the beach and end the day later in a cafe nearby with a table full of tapas.
