I prefer to avoid the big hotels and opt for small-scale holiday stays instead. Breakfast with a sea view? Count me in. Enjoying a glass of rioja in the mountains between the olive trees? Pure pleasure! No matter where I go, I always like to explore the area by car. This way, I get to discover more beautiful places.
One of those special places that I happened across with my rental car was on Lanzarote. In the middle of the rugged landscape of the Spanish island, was a small-scale accommodation so quiet and remote that it feels almost unreal. It’s the kind of place that fills my heart with love, as with so many special places in Spain.
Explore Spain in a rental car
One of the great things about small-scale holiday accommodations is that the owners are often very nice people. Thanks to them, I keep hearing about all the undiscovered gems, like shops and restaurants but also the best nature spots, and where to go for the most unique views. Based on one of these tips, I once climbed to the top of Roque Nublo in Gran Canaria, which gave me mighty fine views of the area. I also discovered countless quiet bays in Mallorca. I’m grateful to meet such wonderful people and happy to have access to a rental car, which gets me wherever I want to go.
Spain is the perfect place to get out and about by car. With a Fly & Drive holiday in Spain, you can set out on your own in search of undiscovered spots, unspoilt nature, and authentic villages. One of my favourite discoveries was Playa de Monsúl in Andalusia, a sandy wedge of beach between volcanic rocks. Did you know that the famous Hollywood movies known as Spaghetti Westerns were once made in the neighbouring Tabernas Desert?
