After a long, sunny summer, I am often looking for places to relive the pleasant moments in October. I want to hold on to that happy feeling of freedom for as long as possible! For the autumn holidays, I have listed my holiday tips for you. This way you know for sure that you will end up at a sunny spot in Europe. Avoid the cold fall weather!
The sunny holiday period cannot last long enough for me, which is why I regularly pack my bags during the autumn holidays to leave for places where the end of summer is far from in sight. Whether I'm going to fly or arrange my own transport by car, I can take a 2-week break during a sunny holiday abroad. In Spain and Greece, the sun is still working overtime, in Portugal and Italy it is still wonderful to do activities during the day and in Cyprus and Malta, they also have warm temperatures.
In the fall you are still assured of peace and space in a place away from the crowd. Are you going to book the autumn holiday at one of my small-scale accommodations?
The autumn holidays are so much fun to spend in your own country, October is a great time to visit warmer destinations. But if you'd rather extend your summer, there are plenty of places in Europe where you can grab some sun rays and vitamin D!
I don't know about the islands, but they have a certain attraction to me. I can't resist them! Certainly not when the sun is still shining in the colder months (in the UK). On Cyprus and Madeira, the sun still shines in October and the average temperature even fluctuates around 26 degrees. Here you can enjoy the sunshine in the late summer. The sea water is also nicely warmed up, ideal for beach and sea lovers like me.
I also regularly look for the Spanish sun in October and I flee to the Canary Islands. For example in the south of Tenerife or Gran Canaria, where it is sometimes 5 or 6 degrees warmer than in the north of the island. The sun shows itself very often and because it is located on a banana plantation, there is plenty of peace and quiet. Mild weather is also what you can find in the Balearic Islands; in Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca the tourists are almost invisible and you can enjoy complete freedom. If that's not the ultimate late summer feeling...
Are you a real peace seeker and do you not mind if tourist spots are no longer open? On the Greek islands, it is wonderfully quiet in October, most restaurant owners are slowly closing the season and most travelers are already at home. If you don't mind cooking yourself every now and then in a holiday home or apartment with a kitchen, I can definitely recommend going on a sunny holiday in Greece in the fall. Crete, Lefkada, Zakynthos; here I come!
Do you falter at the thought of an island? Thinking of mainland Spain, Portugal, and Greece, I only see opportunities for you to retreat during the autumn holidays. I could talk for hours about my adventures in the Algarve and Andalusia! From the stretched beaches to undiscovered restaurants, there is something different to experience every day. Within a few hours of flying you can enjoy a nice week away with the family.
Now the car trip to a holiday destination can also be a fun undertaking! The children sing songs in the background, you have a view over the unique roads that lead to your final destination, such as Tuscany and Provence.
Do you want a quick getaway? Above I have highlighted all my accommodations for you during the holiday period, but you can of course also take a look at my last minutes stays around the autumn holidays.
If you book a holiday by plane with me, it always includes accommodation and rental car!
