When winter makes for dark days, cold nights and wet streets, my mind wanders to sunny Southern destinations. What could be better than trading the dark UK days for the warmth of the European sun? February is one of my favourite months for a sun holiday to escape the cold winter.
These are my favourite locations for a February break. If you can see yourself escaping our British winter in such a spot, booking is easy. But be quick, they fill up fast!
Cyprus, Madeira, the Canaries, southern Portugal and southern Spain are my favourite winter sun destinations. And February is the perfect month to visit one of them as there is so much going on.
In Tenerife, there is the Carnival de Santa Cruz de Tenerife. During this Caribbean-style carnival, hundreds of groups parade and dance down the streets in colourful costumes. What a way to shake those winter blues!
In Cyprus, you can ski and swim in one day in February: from the snow on the Troodos Mountains to the sunny beaches down below. Evenings and nights are definitely cooler in February; the perfect climate for cosy nights indoors.
