Do I have to pay a (cash) deposit for my rental car?

Yes, the local car rental company will ask you for a deposit. After all, they provide you with a fairly valuable asset! The deposit covers damages, theft, fraud or negligence. The amount depends on the local vendor and is clearly stated in the rental terms and conditions.


You are required to pay the deposit using a credit card in the name of the main driver. The amount is reserved or deducted from your credit card. This will temporarily affect your spending limit. Your deposit is returned to you within 10 working days after your rental period has ended. Take into account that credit card companies need time to process these payments. The actual date your deposit is returned depends on your credit card supplier.
