What else do I need to consider when renting a car?

General tips:

- Choose a car with enough room for both passengers and luggage.

- Choose an engine that's strong enough for your destination.

- Take note of the fuel gauge and return the tank as you found it (usually full). We advise you to not make other arrangements, they usually end up costing you more.

- If you don't want to do all the driving, a second driver is included in your rental. Be sure they hold a valid driving license.

- Don't forget to reserve extras such as a sat nav or child seats.

- Check the expiration date on your driving license.

- Bring a credit card in your name.

- A deposit is reserved or deducted from your credit card. This will temporarily affect your spending limit. Your deposit is returned to you within 10 working days after your rental period has ended. Take into account that credit card companies need time to process these payments. The actual date your deposit is returned depends on your credit card supplier.


Before departure:

Have you booked a holiday and are you returning your rental car at a different airport than where you picked it up? Please take into account that your car rental request will be put through to our partner Sunny Cars, and there may be additional costs. If we don't get in touch with you, you may rest assured that your different drop-off location is approved. If it isn't possible to book a different drop-off point, we will get in touch with you. Be sure to thoroughly check the car rental terms and conditions for your destination as well as the car rental voucher that you'll receive along with your other travel documents about a week before you travel. You find all your travel documents in My Eliza.

- Read your voucher and the terms and conditions before departure so you know what to expect.

- If you're travelling with 4 or more people, we advise you to either book an upgrade or an additional car. You may be able to upgrade your rental car to a bigger model at extra cost. Or you may prefer to book an extra vehicle to transport your group and luggage. If you are looking to upgrade your rental car, please indicate so during the third step of the booking process, or get in touch with us via email or phone. If a larger model isn't available, we'll get in touch to discuss your options.


During pick-up:

- A deposit is reserved or deducted from your credit card. This will temporarily affect your spending limit. Your deposit is returned to you within 10 working days after your rental period has ended. Take into account that credit card companies need time to process these transfers. The actual date your deposit is returned depends on your credit card supplier.

- Do not take out any additional insurance with your local vendor when you pick up your rental car. Your car is completely insured. If you cause damage to the vehicle, the local vendor will deduct this from your deposit. You can claim this amount upon your return home.

- Before departing for your holiday location, have a good look around the car for any existing damage. Make a note or take pictures before you set off.

- You can show the local car rental company a digital copy of your car rental voucher directly from My Eliza or the app. Be sure you are able to send a PDF of the voucher to the local vendor if they request one.


During drop-off:

- Return the vehicle with a tank that's as full as when you picked it up. This usually means completely full. We advise you to not make other arrangements, they usually end up costing you more.

- Don't forget to take all of your belongings and remove any waste from the car.

- Keep hold of your signed copy of the rental agreement for at least 8 weeks after your return.

- In case of damage to your rental car, keep hold of damage report for at least 8 weeks.
