My friend Elena took me on my first outing to Lesbos (or Lesvos). We drove our rental car past dozens of olive groves. While visiting the many villages on the island, we found the Petrified Forest, where trees have fossilised and turned into stone. In nearby fishing village Sigri, we learnt about the origins of this magnificent forest as well as many bird species. Back in our rental car, we made a brief stop in the historic village of Agia Paraskevi, which was pretty as a postcard. I just knew that the Greek islands of Lesbos had captured my heart at that very moment!
I'd heard so many great stories about Samos. Stories about the countless vineyards, the lovely locals and the abundant flowers on this pretty island. My first trip there exceeded all these expectations! Each turn of the winding roads showed my something new. On Mount Kerkis, I hiked past convents and caves. And in the local tavern, I tasted the delicious Samos wine...
